Building a Community
Friday, November 23rd, 2007Today, I shared community. A bit of micro-blogging on twitter, a bit of research at a few of my favorite blogs, and ultimately a bit of listening in to some of my favorite podcasts. I am truly amazed at the differences that people can make when they share community, when people freely give of themselves all the while being unattached to the outcomes.
My friend Marina Martin at http://www.sufficientthrust.com absolutely embodies this sense of community, and has graciously helped me with this blog, and with the teaching and knowledge that I needed as a non-techie to really get started delivering to you what I hope to be an engaging, at times enlightening, and hopefully educational resource for you to draw on and join in on the conversations.
My name is Keith Burtis, I am an artist with a background in marketing, a father, and an all around community guy. The method by which I express my art is through woodturning. My great grandfather, my grandfather, and my father have all passed down to me the love of working with wood, creating beautiful design, and how to be resourceful.
The reason for this web page is so that I might be able to share with you my work on a progressive basis. Share with you the trials and tribulations of what it is like to be a budding professional in the arts scene. I would like to share with you my inspirations for different pieces and where the thought processes have come from.
Also, I will utilize this page to display some of my production pieces including my exotic wood Wine Bottle Stoppers, and fine Pens. If you have any work that you would like to share with us please leave a link to your website or e-mail me some pictures so that we might all learn from each other.
So lets go on a journey together. Lets learn from each other and really build a sense of community that we can all be proud to call our own. I look forward to it!
