Being Aware

Few things on the net these days in my mind are really worth a meme or going viral. Its the (pardon me) stupid videos on YouTube that get all the hits, and the crazy rumor spreaders that seem to make the top page of Digg. So here I am on my couch just outside of Buffalo New York telling you that I have a meme worth spreading, a virus that should surely effect us all!

Being Aware!

My new friend from Twitter @Sorenj, has created many blog posts that are amazing in quality, but I would suspect not the viral million hit YouTube video of the guy punching out his brother. Whats the problem folks? Not enough action or drama in the video of a person helping the old lady across the street? I bet it would be more fun if her dress fell down…now thats something worth watching , huh.

I may sound preachy, and I may sound like I’m rambling, so I will get to the point.
Become aware! Become aware of the people around you, your present space, and the energy that envelops you all the time. Be aware of someone who needs help and be aware of those in need.

In geek speak - Someone asked me the other day. “How come you link out to other talented artists from your blog?” aren’t they competition, haven’t you spent a lot of time and work on your site?” Folks, I am not going to field that question except for to say that spreading love and planting seeds always bears fruit.

So, here is my call out to you, my friends and anyone who comes across this blog post from now until the end of time.

1. Read @Sorenj’s Blog Post called How I can Make the World a Better Place

2. Please leave him a comment. Show him, show the world that we are not all walking around with blinders on our eyes like racehorses all racing to a finish line that doesn’t exist!

3. Tell three other people about the post! Or trackback to his post in an effort to create a social shift. (If you are thinking that your one post read by 5 people doesn’t make a difference, think again!)

People, the world is changing rapidly, the climate, the economy, the social nets, and the way that we interact with the outside world. Take a day and go fishing with your kids! Spend time smelling the roses. be interactive with the world and the people in it! You don’t have to be a preacher, just doing a good deed, and being aware of others is all it will take.

The kind actions of one erase the thoughtless actions of many!

I am going to call out on a few friends that I know understand the meaning of Awareness and Giving as well as share a shortish video by Daniel Goldman at the TED Conference.

Marina Martin - Social Media Entrepreneur and Efficiency Specialist.

Kevin Lim - Educator and Social Media Guru

Gloria Bell - Breast Cancer Termination Warrior! , Social media Friend.
Gloria has already added a post, so please look at her blog as well :)

    Keith,

I am so honored to have been included in this impressive list of people. Thank you for recognizing the things that are truly important in this life.

I wish (sort of) that I could take credit for having been the brave one, but it was my mother that was the breast cancer survivor. I am only a lowly warrior in the fight to terminate this hideous disease.

Keith, thank you for your extravagant comment! Nothing motivates one to do good than for goodness sake. When you demonstrate that quality, friends then know that you are bigger than yourself.

Linking to competitors is a great example, which is something that this blog criticizer mentioned as “You have to look at it like ‘helping your readers find what they want’ instead of ‘I don’t want to link to my competition’. Believe me, this helps more than hurts.”

From a social scientist, if you have more links to relevant information, you naturally become more central in a network of your genre. That’s a good place you’d want to be! :D
