Hello, that's good advice.

I'm a big fan of WordPress, used it to power Stuart King's website at <a href="http://www.stuartking.co.uk" title="Stuart King, woodturner" rel="nofollow">www.stuartking.co.uk</a>.

He's a woodturner/writer who republishes many of the articles he's written for Woodturning magazine on his website by using a blog.

Why WordPress? It's simple for a non-techie to learn to use. It can publish both static pages and blog posts. It's easy to insert photos and video. It's also quick for a web designer to install and can be customised with a theme to give a website its own look and style.

Not being a fan of Facebook (too confusing, too many daft messages), I wonder whether anyone has considered building a social networking site specifically for crafts? That could be done with an application like Ning.

This is SOOOO true! I did something similar recently for my daughter, who is an artist. Set her up with a combination of Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr and Disqus. :) She is a bit computer phobic, so had to keep it simple and spare, but still elegant enough to reflect her abilities and tastes.
